This month we have been focusing on our Unit - Understanding the Immigrant Experience. Each student has been reading a book about a fictional story that tells of the challenges that a young immigrant faces as they try to assimilate into American culture. Students have individual work and group work for this book. Each student should have a calendar of activities, lab days, discussion days, work days and due dates. All work is due before winter break.

Group work includes (Each student can only lead one from each category).
- Quote Collage
- Discussion notes
-Current Event Connections
- Illustrations

Individual Work includes
- Letter to the fictitious Stargate Admission Board persuading them to admit the main character to Stargate.
- draft & outline of the letter

On a more personal note - 2013 has been a year of challenges in many communities and through it all community after community has come through those challenges feeling stronger. In my eleventh year at Stargate, I am proud to say that we are still Stargate Strong. We have weathered many storms and we continue to look for the best ways to meet the needs of our gifted kids, to have meaningful communication with parents, to engage everyone in a positive learning community that celebrates our differences and holds each accountable for being our best selves. I am proud to be an Eagle and look forward to 2014.
