Kindergarten 2014-2015

Kindergarten artists will be exploring lines, 2-D shapes, primary & secondary colors, textures, artistic preferences, and Art History through mixed media portraits, emotion paintings, experiments with light and color, symbol printing, cut paper collages, and abstract self-portraits. Some artists we’ll be exploring are Kandinsky, Matisse, Reynolds, Mondrian, and Picasso among others. Get ready to use pencils, markers, watercolors, tempera paint, oil pastels, and tissue paper!

-          This week, Kindergarden Artists will talk about Pablo Picasso by looking at his artwork and drawing an abstract self-portrait. Artists will also learn about printing by creating painted textures using at least three different materials.

Kindergarten Artists will become detectives by identifying textures on a scavenger hunt. Artists will explore and experiment with texture rubbings on the playground, and discover that there are SO many different textures all around us everyday!  Artists will show understanding of secondary colors and texture rubbings by using texture plates with secondary colors during our texture rubbing dance party!

Kinderdarten Artists are doing FANTASTIC with identifying primary colors and geometric shapes. This week we'll be identifying and creating organic shapes by looking at Matisse's paper cut collages. Artists will know the differences between organic and geometric shapes by playing a shapes game and creating both kinds of shapes to create a collage with. Artists will show understanding of the collage process and shape types by cutting and gluing at least 6 organic and geometric shapes and gluing them onto paper to create a design.

Kindergarten Artists will explore primary colors by using only red, blue, and yellow colors in their artworks, and will identify primary colors around the Art Studio.. Artists will experiment with how different geometric shapes can be used together to make everyday items such as people, cars, and houses. Artists will show proper use of art materials by cutting out shapes with scissors safely

Kindergarten Artists will be exploring Pablo Picasso's journey from realistic to abstract paintings by looking at and talking about many examples of his work. Artists will experiment with abstract art by using shapes, colors, and lines to create Abstract Self-Portraits. Artists will use different media and techniques to communicate ideas by demonstrating painting skills using primary colors to create secondary colors.

This week Kindergarten Artists will learn how to make a resist painting by using watercolors and oil pastels, andlook at and understand Marc Chagall’s use of colors and space by creating an around the world drawing. If time permits, they'll also discover Matisse’s artwork by learning about geometric and organic shapes, and creating a cut paper collage!

Kindergarten Artists are observing how colors can communicate feelings by looking at and talking about Edvard Munch's The Scream. Artists are also painting a specific feeling using colors, and experimenting with using primary colors to create secondary colors. Artists are also beginning to create tints mixing white with hues.

Kindergarten Artists will be finishing their exploration of lines, shapes, and colors with paint resist! Artists will be delving into an in-depth investigation of color, specifically using primary colors to create secondary colors. We'll also be experimenting with how colors can communicate feelings.
