Mrs. Bishop - ARCHIVE

About Me
Beginning my second year at Stargate fills me with excitement and optimism for the amazing things in store!  Reflecting on last year has made me realize just how lucky I am to be part of such a supportive, creative, excited community.  I'm thankful to be working with such talented students and teachers in and out of the classroom!. I have two great kids (Zach-8, Aubrey-6) and supportive and loving husband, Aaron.  My passion is learning new things, which has recently been playing the guitar, swimming (training for a triathlon), and exploring new Colorado hiking trails (walking and running).  The picture here is us hiking Mt. Democrat, Mt. Cameron, Mt. Lincoln, and Mt. Bross this summer (fun and exhausting)!

What I Love about Teaching
My favorite time is spent with students in the classroom.  I absolutely love getting lost in learning and engaging in a student-driven question.  Science is most definitely the best subject in the world because it tends to be so engaging and really brings out curiosity and creativity in students.  It is truly a blessing to work with such talented and creative students this year.  Their ideas and thinking are so inspiring!  I look forward to building a scientific community in the classroom and really pushing kids to work as active scientists in their world.

How to Contact Me
I am a strong proponent of open communication and assuming positive intentions.  I love teaching, as I mentioned, because of the students and I want what is best for them.  If you don't understand why I do something in the classroom, please contact me.  I have a reason for every procedure and my processes are in place to create a safe and productive learning environment for students.  I only ask that communication be kept respectful and open both ways.

Google Classroom and Website Resources:
Google Classroom is the management system being utilized by the middle and high school this year.  Students will have in class and homework assignments through Google Classroom.  I also maintain a class webpage that will be updated and used for accessing resources, project expectations, and PBL webpages.  I expect students to visit the webpage and utilize the resources and links as needed.  Check it out at

Mastering Physics:
Our textbook, Hewitt Conceptual Integrated Science 2e, is completely online.  Students can access the textbook through and log-in using their personally created username and password.  Students who lose their log-in information will need to pay $30 to purchase a new textbook code to use throughout this year.  Weekly homework assignments (Reading and questions) will be assigned through the Mastering Physics platform.

Grades are kept on Infinite Campus which you can access from the menu.  If there is ever a time when you are wondering how your student is doing or you don't understand something about the grading system, please contact me with questions.  I am here to help!  I am also a huge believer that grades should be a reflection of understanding and content mastery, not just a to do checklist.  For that reason, students will receive a responsibility grade and a content grade on all content-based assignments.  The responsibility grade will reflect behaviors such as timeliness, quality, and participation.  (Please refer to the syllabus for more information.)
